Furka Railway, Switzerland, 2012

The full story of how the Swiss locomotives went to Vietnam and how they were rescued from the scrap heap and returned to Switzerland in 1990 is available on http://vnafmamn.com/tracing_shangrila.html and http://vnafmamn.com/VHXlocomotive_restoration.html
Although I disagree with some of the anti-communist comments on the Shangri La site it is included as it is the most comprehensive record available.

The following photographs were taken in 2012.

The cog assembly under the goods van

The maintenance depot being constructed around a turntable at Realp

Stopping for water on the climb out of Realp

The end of the cog section as the line descends into Gletsch with the Rhone glacier in the background
The following set of photographs were kindly made available by Walter Frech of DFB.
Information about the Furka Railway is available on https://www.dfb.ch but it is mainly in German (try google translate to get a reasonable translation)
